LUNDI 07 AOUT 1944

Vire / Saint-Germain de Tallevende :
Prés de Vire sur les hauteurs de Chénedollé, le SS-Unterscharfürer Will Fey est en position avec son tiger (134) du bataillon lourd, il est seul. Soudain, une colonne de chars Sherman du 23 zd Hussars de la 11 th Armoured Division apparaît sur l'autre versant et descend la vallée, vers midi. En trente minutes, il en détruit 14, Les Américains se battent pour enlever les hauteurs autour de la ville de Vire. Le 112ème R.I. de la 28ème division s'empare du pont très important entre Vire et Gathemo. Le 110 et 112ème R.I. de la 28ème division poursuivent leur progression vers l'est en direction de Saint-Germain de Tallevende (ferme de la Jeulière)

Vengeons / Sourdeval / Brouains / Beauficel :
A Sourdeval, une salve d'obus tombe sur la route de Mortain, des chars se dirigent vers les virages de Bellevue en direction de Saint-Barthélémy / Mortain. Il fait très beau. L'aviation alliée est très active. La D.C.A. Allemande également. A partir de 14 h jusqu'au soir, les chasseurs bombardiers attaquent à la bombe, au canon, et à la mitrailleuse sur toute la région de Sourdeval comme dans le triangle. Les hauteurs de Vengeons sont également leurs cibles. L'artillerie Allemande tire vers Chérencé-le-Roussel. Un avion en feu tombe dans le bois de Bellevue. Le soir et la nuit du 7 au 8, les obus tombent un peu partout principalement vers le sud de Sourdeval, le pont de Sée, le moulin Foulon. Une ferme brûle dans le village de la Cocherie. Cela dure jusqu'au jour.
Les jours qui vont suivre seront terribles pour Sourdeval.

MONDAY 7 AUGUST 1944

Vire /Saint-Germain de Tallevende :

Close to Vire on the heights of Chénedollé, SS-Unterscharfürer Will Fey is in position with his tiger (134) of the heavy battalion, alone. Suddenly, a column of Sherman tanks of the 23 zd Hussars of 11 th Armoured Division appears on the other side and goes down the valley at about midday. In thirty minutes, he destroys 14, The Americans fight to relieve the heights around the city of Vire . 112th R.I of the 28th division seizes the very important bridge entering Vire and Gathemo. The 110 and 112th R.I of the 28th division continue their progression towards the east in direction of Saint-Germain de Tallevende (farm of Jeulière)

Vengeons /Sourdeval /Brouains /Beauficel :

In Sourdeval, a salvo of shell falls on the road from Mortain, some tanks move towards the turns of Bellevue in direction of St. Barthélémy /Mortain. The weather is very nice. Aviation allied is very active. The German anti-aircraft defence also . From 2 p.m. until the evening, the hunters bombers attack with the bomb, the gun, and the machine-gun on the area of Sourdeval with in the triangle. The heights of « Vengeons » are also their targets. The German artillery draws towards Chérencé-le-Roussel. A plane on fire falls into the wood of Bellevue. The evening and the night of the 7th to the 8th , the shells fall a little everywhere , but mainly towards the south of Sourdeval, the bridge of Sée, the Moulin Foulon . A farm burns in the hamlet La Cocherie. That lasts almost all day.
The days which will follow will be terrible for Sourdeval.

MONTAG, DEN 7. AUGUST 1944

Vire – Saint-Germain-de-Tallevende:
Nahe Vire, auf den Höhen von Chénedollé, ist der SS-Unterscharführer WILLI FEY in Position mit seinem Tiger (134) eines schweren Bataillons, er ist allein.
Plötzlich erscheint eine Kolonne von Sherman-Panzern der 23. Husaren der 11. britischen gepanzerten Division auf dem gegenüberliegenden Hang und rollt gegen Mittag hinunter ins Tal.
In dreißig Minuten zerstört der Deutsche
Die Amerikaner kämpfen, um die Höhen um die Stadt Vire zu erobern.
Das 112. Infanterie-Regiment der 28. Division bemächtigt sich der sehr wichtigen Brücke zwischen Vire und Gathêmo.
Das 110. und 112. Infanterie-Regiment der 28. Division setzen ihren Vormarsch nach Osten in die Richtung Saint-Germain-de-Tallevende (Bauernhof La Jeulière) fort.

Vengeons – Sourdeval – Brouains - Beauficel:
In Sourdeval fällt eine Granaten-Salve auf die Straße von Mortain, Panzer rollen in Richtung der Kurven von Bellevue und in Richtung Saint-Barthélémy - Mortain.
Es ist herrliches Wetter.
Die alliierte Luftwaffe ist sehr aktiv.
Die deutsche Luftabwehr ebenfalls.
Von 14 Uhr bis zum Abend greifen die Jagdbomber mit Bomben, Kanonen und Maschinengewehren in der Region von Sourdeval sowie im gesamten “Dreieck”
(“LE TRIANGLE NORMAND”) an.
Ebenso sind die Höhen von Vengeons ihr Ziel.
Die deutsche Artillerie feuert nach Chérencé-le-Roussel.
Ein brennendes Flugzeug stürzt in den Wald von Bellevue.
Am Abend und in der Nacht vom 7. auf den 8. August schlagen fast überall Granaten ein,
hauptsächlich im Süden von Sourdeval, an der Brücke über die Sée und an der Moulin Foulon.
Bis zum frühen Morgen brennt ein Bauernhof im Dorf La Cocherie.

Die folgenden Tage werden für die Stadt Sourdeval schrecklich sein.
